Mechanicville, New York — A community in upstate New York is mourning after a tragic incident at a residence in Mechanicville left four children and two adults dead, prompting an active investigation and widespread expressions of grief and support.

Police say a mother, Sarah Myers, her four children — Harper Myers, Hudson Myers, Gracelynn Myers, and Gavin Myers — and Amy Steadman (Sarah’s mother) were found dead in an apparent murder-suicide last night.

According to the Mechanicville Police Department, officers responded to a home on Harris Avenue at approximately 6:20 p.m. Tuesday to conduct a welfare check after concerns were raised when residents had reportedly not been seen or heard from for several days.

When officers arrived at the residence, they discovered six people deceased inside the home.

Authorities later identified those involved as 44-year-old Sarah Myers, her four children — Harper Myers, Hudson Myers, Gracelynn Myers, and Gavin Myers — and Amy Steadman, identified as Sarah’s mother.

Police have stated that there is no known threat to the public at this time.

The New York State Police are assisting the Mechanicville Police Department as investigators continue working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

The deaths of the children have particularly shaken the local community. Friends, neighbors, and residents have expressed heartbreak and sorrow as they process the devastating news.
